Throughout my time here in Rome I have learned so many things about the basilicas that give me a lense to how people interpreted the stories of Jesus and the church. One of the most important aspects of the church is the main focal point when entering it. The beautiful apse that sits above the altar is designed to draw you in, and that is exactly what they did every time I walked into the church. Each apse was completely unique and represented different people and stories. We learned that many people back in the time of Jesus were illiterate and could not read the word of the lord. These apses were a way to tell stories of the gospels to those who could not read. I think these apses are important because it is a way for history to love on. It is a tool to spread faith to those through their emotions and word of mouth. The more we talk about/interpret the apse with one another the more influential they become.
